Well, I checked some others today and at least a few more have gone fishy. :/ Disappointing. I have a bunch of samples that are going in the trash, I guess,
Allbottlesusa has great quality samples and decants
Thanks! I might give those a try. They aren’t quite as dirt cheap as the ones on Amazon but I’ll make that trade for bottles that don’t stink.
I use glass sprayers and seal the atomizer with paraffin tape. The paraffin tape is sort of a bitch to remove and you do have to replace it after use, but it makes an airtight seal. I rarely have decants evaporate or go bad.
The fishy smell is not the fragrance, it's the cheap plastics in the atomizers themselves. Check the reviews on the products on Amazon, and you can spot the "fishy" ones really quick.
I'm convinced they're using some old fish oil or something as a mold release agent or something worse over in China... This coming from the country that sells counterfeit chicken eggs ... for human consumption.
Thanks, and I agree. It’s definitely from the atomizer, though it certainly seems to taint the bit of fragrance it’s in contact with. The spray of BR540 I put on was stomach turning.
I’ll take another look at Amazon. I feel like I saw most atomizers with similar reviews (except the zero review products).
If you report it to Amazon, they'll refund your money and tell you to keep them. At least they did with me! I threw them out, as the smell made them unusable, and I wasn't going to repeatedly wash them in ethanol to get rid of the smell.
No doubt the smell infiltrated the fragrance, ruining that too!
I use some very simple glass ones from Amazon that come in 10 and 5 ml. and don't leak, evaporate or go bad.
I haven't had equal luck with all atomizers.
Let me know if you want a link and I'm sure I can find it.
They are also not very expensive.
Not OP but I would be interested in a link to the atomizers you use! Or any others that you’ve been reasonably satisfied with.
These are the ones I have used.
I have tried the 10 and 5 ml, but they have other options.
I always put plumber's tape on the threads just to help ensure they don't leak.
I have had very good experience with these so far.
Those are the ones I bought last time that reek of bad fish. They were all fine at first but several have picked up a fishy smell. :/
If you search for “fish” in the reviews you’ll see many say the same. I don’t know if I missed that before or what.
I also use this and didnt have any problem.
I believe what the difference is maybe how long it takes to finish up the samples? Because I go through my sample relatively fast to try out and never leave them long enough. Or it could be that some of the batch smells and the others are okay.
It doesn’t seem to affect all the samples I’ve put into these. Some (most?) seem unaffected. A few I’ve noticed have a minor smell. The BR540 was not minor.
I’m guessing it’s a combo of inconsistency between atomizers and length of time in contact with the atomizer, because that BR540 certainly didn’t smell like that the first time I tried it.
Thats a real shame because BR540 is one of the most amazing thing ive smelled (in contrary to ppls opinion in reddit)🥲
It's likely just batch thing. I haven't bought the same one but I noticed that most if not all of these atomizers I saw on Amazon had mention of the fishy smell. The ones I got had few that smelled but many didn't. So I just ended up tossing the ones that had smell. It's a shame they have to go to a waste but don't know if there is a way to completely rid of the smell completely.
I’ll have to make sure to check mine before i put it in it as well. Havent really thought to check because i never experienced this myself.
Huh, that's very interesting. I have not had that experience.
I have purchased several packs in two sizes without any scent to them.
